Latin American day!

Here is the question: Is Mexico from South America?

(picture: Scarlett haha, Gabi, Maria, Xanath, Lesly)
When I came to Denmark,
and the YFU’s bus picked me up (I mean, all the exchange students, not only me haha)
the first girls that talked to me were María and Xanath
the cutest girls from Mexico gueeeey!
Omg we were like best friends the second day!
and every time I see these girls is an awesome day!
So this Saturday was not the exception haha

(and of course Gabi too, but I met her before)

Some pictures with these friends of mine :)
....

The thing is: Some future exchange students from Denmark
(only those traveling to Latin America)
had this weekend full of Spanish lessons+dance+food+traditions...
soooooo a volunteer invited Maria, Xanath and me (to help them? :D)
and it was A W E S O M E!
But after all, I NEED to tell you (just if you didn't know)
that Mexico is not from South America guys!
This is maybe obvious for some of you (if you really are from South America for example haha)
but believe that maaaaaany Europeans think that Mexico is in South America!
and noooooooooo man! Mexico is in North America (I mean the continent, not the US of course)
so..

This Saturday was so freaking funny!
when I just arrived to the YFU's house
I had to introduce myself in Danish and then in Spanish (because they were learning Spanish)
Then everyone came to me (maybe 10 students),  and they just said hello and kissed me on the cheek
because you know...
In Asia or Europe a meter between you and the person you’re speaking with is normal,
but not in Chile, and let’s not forget that we kiss everybody. We always begin and end interactions with people with a kiss on the right cheek. It's not like "omg that super cute guy kissed me",
the kiss means like a handshake for us haha
BUT
it was a little bit weird, because I haven't kiseed anyone for a long time,
and even with people I know... it's not like we have a lot of physical contact... maybe only a hug?

so yeeeep!
They kissed me haha
and they had Spanish lessons. After that it was just HYGGE!
we ate cake, played football, LIMBO, danced latin American dances?
 (like bachata, merengue, reggeatón, salsa)
and OMG we danced CUECA!
Can you believe that? I mean...
Our national dance! which essentially represents a rooster courting a chicken haha
It consists of a series of stomps, sashays, and twirled handkerchiefs, all supposedly re-creating a cock’s conquest of a hen?
we make the dance not only look elegant but outright sexy haha
I'm not the best dancing cueca, but it was really really really nice to see Danes dancing cueca
(or trying haha)
...especially because 4 of the volunteers were in Chile last year (as exchange students)
and that made me super happy! they danced better than me haha (jk)

This nice boy went to Chile last year (in Puerto Natales)
and now he's like super Chilean!
What?
I dunno how to explain it, but he has like the Chilean culture in his blood now (I'm not kidding! haha)
he actually speaks Spanish like a Chilean!
I mean....
Even if you studied Spanish in high school, even if you have been in South America before, even if you speak Spanish fluently, you probably will NOT understand "Spanish" in Chile.
We talk fast (especially in Santiago)
We use so many slangs, words derived from the indigenous Mapuche language, and animal-related idioms. Soooooo contrary to the information you gathered from Wikipedia,
our official language is not Spanish man hahah it’s Chilean!
Like... If you wanna speak like a Chilean, you should only pronounce half of each word and say "po" in the end of the sentences (a word with no meaning) and done! you speak like a Chilean...
The funny thing is that of course we understand people from South America for example, but apparently they don't... this weekend when I was talking with my two best mexican friends,
I had to repeat or explain things all the time haha

I LOVED THIS SATURDAY!
LOVE YOU FRIENDS <333333333

Bachata? from Scarlett Pontillo on Vimeo.
